Cryptomeria is a conifer from Japan that is used for its softwood. Today, it is cultivated in other regions with a temperate climate, such as Asia, Canada, South Africa and Reunion Island. Cryptomeria can reach a considerable size (up to 60 m) despite a relatively narrow spread (3 m). This gives the tree a slender cone shape which differs from those of other trees. The buds are known for being rich in vitamins, minerals and trace elements which allow the tree to grow.
