The pecan tree originates from North America and can grow to a height of 40m. It is known and cultivated for its fruit, the pecan nut, with an edible seed. Native American Indians were eating pecan nuts over 6,000 years ago and used the wood to make tools. The shell of the pecan nut represents an important coproduct in the food industry, with between 40-50% of shell in the nuts. The shells have a very interesting composition rich in polyphenols and tannins, giving them antioxidant properties. Produced from the pecan nut shell, pecan tree extract (organic plant) is an exclusive development of Clarins Phytochemistry Laboratory. Different parts of the pecan tree were also used in traditional medicine.

Skincare Benefits of Pecan tree extract (organic plant)

In cosmetics, pecan tree extract helps boost the synthesis of type I collagen. In the experimental conditions used, pecan tree extract (organic plant) helps to minimize carbamylation, thereby protecting the proteins in the extracellular matrix, namely collagen.

Responsible sourcing

We source our extract from a pecan tree grown in accordance with organic farming principles, without chemical inputs or pesticide. We work with a pecan nut producer based in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. On this 300 ha family farm, particular attention is paid to growing conditions (crops distributed based on the plant’s need for water, controlled irrigation with the use of a drip system, seeding lucerne as plant cover between rows of pecan trees, installation of hives along the edges of plots, etc.). The pecan tree extract is one of our co-products from the food industry. Pecan nuts are harvested in autumn when the nuts reach maturity. They are dried then cracked to release the nut which is sold as food. The shell is recovered to produce our pecan tree extract.
